Dumsor: Yammin’s house catches fire, calls for explanation and timetable

Yammin demands explanation and load management timetable after his house caught fire

Former Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports; Joseph Yammin has called on the government to be bold enough to explain the power situation and make an official load management timetable available to the public. He believes this will help people know how to manage their electrical appliances better to avoid damage and fires due to electricity.

Mr. Yammin, who is also a former Deputy Ashanti regional minister made the comment after a fire outbreak in his house on Friday 23rd April, 2021. He showed rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi how his bedroom caught fire after fluctuations in the electricity supply. “The table top fan close to the bed exploded and fell onto the bed setting off a fire. The bed, the ceiling and a few other items are badly burnt as you can see” Mr. Yammin recounted as he inspected the rubble after the fire with Bernard Buachi.

Mr. Yammin who was visibly angry wondered what the government was doing. “It seems they do not even understand the situation. The confusion within the energy sector is too much. How can they solve it when they do not know what is happening”? he queried.

Ghana’s power supply has been unstable for some months now; a situation which has come to be known in local parlance as Dumsor. Before this, both the current NPP government and the erstwhile NDC government took credit for permanently fixing the country’s energy crisis.
