A member of the commission which investigated Ghana’s disgraceful show at the World Cup in Brazil is unhappy some of the Commission’s recommendations are treated with contempt.
Moses Foh-Amoaning said even though the Justice Dzamefe Commission stated how issues on bonuses should be handled, it seems nobody is paying attention to it.
His comments follows a disagreement between government and Ghana Football Association on one hand and players of the Black Queens over payment of bonuses.
The Queens who won gold at the just ended All African Games in Congo Brazzaville have not been given all their winning bonuses because the government admitted it is broke.
The Commission probed among others the airlifting of about 3 million dollars to Brazil which exposed the country to international ridicule. Even after the Commission had made its recommendations, government airlifted cash to the Rwandan capital, Kigali, for the payment of the Black Stars bonuses ahead of their 2017 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda on September 5.
It seems stakeholders are not interested in the Commission’s recommendation regarding the payment of bonuses.
“The sad thing is that it is happening when the Commission has worked over six months; the report has been adopted; there is a white paper [but] matters that were laid down, principles that were laid down are still hanging,” Mr. Foh-Amoaning told Joy News Monday.
He said the Commission issued a laid down procedure for implementing recommendations in its report. The President was also informed about members of the Commission’s willingness to assist with the implementation, he stated.
All national team players play for the nation out of pride, but they must be compensated, he referred to portions of the Commission’s report, adding payment of allowances must be “outlined properly” before the team leaves the country.
“It is very sad and not good at all,” he said of the latest disagreement over bonuses.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Sannie Daara Director of Communications at Ghana Football Association has told Joy News the FA is “trying as much as possible to find middle ground” in resolving the impasse by tomorrow.
He also entreated the players who have refused to leave their hotel to go home, assuring them that they would not be “cheated” but given what is due them.
“There would be better days ahead,” he assured the disappointed players.
