The National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has been disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) from contesting in the 2024 general elections.
The decision follows Joana Gyan Cudjoe’s appeal to the EC, after a petition was filed to bar her from participating in the upcoming December 7 poll.
The EC cited her disqualification as being due to a pending lawsuit against her candidacy, which has neither been stayed nor vacated. The commission emphasized that it is bound by the existing court order in making its decision.
The EC in a letter said, “You have been disqualified from standing as a candidate for election to Parliament in your Constituency.
Lawyers for the parliamentary candidate, Ayine and Associates, in an October 15 letter to the EC, stressed that Joana Gyan Cudjoe remains the NDC’s duly elected candidate of the party.
Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central in the Western region, was barred by the Sekondi High Court in May 2024 from claiming to be the party’s candidate.
This decision stems from allegations that she forged her voter ID and NDC party card.
The five applicants, Gyedu Frimpong, Akubilla Daniel, Enock Ntiamoh, Isaac Twum, and Doris Aidoo, sued Joana Cudjoe, the NDC, and the Electoral Commission as respondents.
