Ballot papers and other arrangements for the conduct of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary on Saturday are set, the 
Electoral Commission (EC) has indicated.
The Principal Public Relations Officer of the EC, Mrs Sylvia Annoh, told the Daily Graphic yesterday that notice of poll had already been sent to all the 10 regions.
“So we are ready… We just want to believe that they will play by the rules,” she said.
Mrs Annoh said the necessary security arrangements had been done, adding that there would be five police officers at every polling station.
A total of 141,000 delegates across the country will decide the fate of the three aspirants – Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Francis Addai-Nimoh – in a contest dogged with internal wranglings that threaten party unity.
The delegates will cast their ballots at 275 polling stations across the country and the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Mrs Annoh said counting of ballots would begin immediately after the end of poll, but she was quick to add that delegates still in queue at 3 p.m. would be allowed to vote.
Mrs Annoh said the presiding officer would be in charge of the polling station, with the support of two polling assistants.
She said delegates were required to present both their voter ID and party ID cards to the presiding officer to verify their eligibility to vote before checking their names in the voters register.
After checking their names, the first polling assistant would issue the delegates with a ballot paper while the second polling assistant would apply indelible ink on their fingernail before they cast their ballot.
Mrs Annoh said the candidates were allowed to have two polling agents, but only one of them was required to be present at the polling station at a particular time.
She cautioned against campaigning at the polling station and warned that anyone who flouted the rule would be dealt with according to law.
Mrs Annoh said after the counting of ballots at the polling station, the results would be declared by the Presiding Officer and same would be transmitted to the EC Regional Office, under whose jurisdiction is a polling station.
She said subsequently, the results would be forwarded to the strongroom at the EC head office in Accra, where the final collation would take place.
