The Electoral Commission(EC) has in a swift manner vindicated the Vice-Presidential aspirant of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP) from claims by the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) that he checked his name on the voter roll at his residence.
The Commission also extricated Dr Mahamadu Bawumia from the allegations of bribery.
In a comprehensive statement signed by the Director of Operations at the EC, Amadu Sulley, the EC maintained nothing of the two claims occurred at Kperisi, the exhibition center in Walewale where the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana checked his name.
However, the Commission chastised its agents for taking the biometric kit and voter register out from the center to where they were alleged to have allowed the economist check his name.
BACKGROUND:
About two weeks ago, the ruling National Democratic Congress accused the NPP vice presidential aspirant of checking his name at his residence during the voter exhibition exercise.
The party also claimed the renowned economist lured two EC officials with a whopping GHC 10,000.00 to do so at his private residence.
But, in a swift manner, Anthony Abayifa Karbo, aide to Dr Mahamadu Bawumia ferociously parried off the claims insisting nothing of the sort went on.
He accused the NDC of seeking to clutch onto straw to dent the image of the former Deputy Governor and NPP stalwart.
APOLOGY:
Meanwhile, the NPP moments after the EC released the statement which sought to exonerate the NPP vice-presidential aspirant, called on the NDC to hurriedly apologize to Dr Bawumia for the false allegations they leveled against him.
Speaking to Ghanaian Observer, Deputy Communications Director of the NPP, Anthony Karbo called on the NDC to apologize to the NPP.
He said the allegations the ruling party sought to push were aimed at denigrating both its vice presidential aspirant and the party as a unit.
The NPP, he claimed knew the allegations against Dr Bawumia were false, but stressed the NDC criminally and maliciously intended to cause disaffection for the NPP ahead of the upcoming polls by spewing such out.
ADVICE:
Mr Karbo advised the NDC to do the noble thing by rendering an unqualified apology to its vice-presidential aspirant.
Mr Karbo charged the NDC to also work to ensure they put the crumbling economy back on its feet since many were wallowing in poverty and dying out of frustration.
