ECG fails to issue load-shedding timetable

williamThe Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reneged on its promise to issue a load-shedding guide on Thursday, September 18, 2014.

According to the Company, its original guide had been disrupted by the recent halt in gas supply from Nigeria.

In an exclusive interview with TV3’s Sandra Amarquaye in Accra, William Boateng, the Public Relations Officer of the Company, said the guide was drafted with a 300 megawatts (MW) deficit in mind.

However, with the recent development, the Company has to shed 500MW of power, suggesting the guide has to be readjusted.

Therefore, it has withdrawn the drafted timetable which was to be released on Thursday for a new one which will be made ready next week, Mr Boateng assured.

Maintenance works on major power plants have resulted in a sharp reduction in power supply, a situation that has intensified power rationing across the country.

Ghanaians have been, however, assured that the situation may stabilize at the end of September.

Major industries, Mr Boateng said, will be spared the load-shedding exercise.
