The Ejisu Juabeng Municipal Assembly has justified the arrest of some 20 children who were caught watching pornography in the night.
Last week, the Ejisu Police Command in a swoop arrested about 20 children between eight and 12-years for watching pornographic videos at various video centers at night.
Parents of the children who went to the station to identify their wards were also arrested.
The police accused the parents of breaching the Children’s Act. They were granted bail after police had taken statements from them, together with their parents.
Ten parents of the suspected minors are being processed for court.
Municipal Chief Executive of the Ejisu Juabeng Municipality, Yamoah Ponko, says more of such arrests will be made to instill discipline in residents.
“It is something that is being praised by all and sundry. Some of these things have been going on for quite long. If children are permitted to watch pornographic materials, you know the end results so we are not going to back down”, he said and added that the Police are still investigating and those who are found to be innocent will be let off the hook.
Well done Ghana Police Service but what about arresting noise makers who are also injuring children.
The Criminal Code and The Ghana Constitution have laws to protect children from harm caused by noise.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) says “Noise Can Kill”.
“Repeated exposure to noise during critical periods of development may affect a child’s acquisition of speech, language, and language-related skills, such as reading and listening. The inability to concentrate in a noisy environment can affect a child’s capacity to learn”. http://www.epa.gov/air/noise/ochp_noise_fs_rev1.pdf
