Election 2024: Cynthia Morrison denies withdrawing independent candidacy

Recent media reports suggesting that Cynthia Mamle Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West, has withdrawn her decision to contest the upcoming elections as an independent candidate are false, according to a statement from her office.

This comes after reports surfaced suggesting that the Amenfi West MP has rescinded her decision to contest the seat as an independent candidate and joined the New Patriotic Party.

However, the MP, in a statement, reaffirmed her commitment to the development of the Agona West constituency and the well-being of its people.

Contrary to the media reports, Cynthia Morrison noted that she has not made any such announcement retracting her independent candidacy.

“We urge the media and the general public to disregard these baseless claims and rely only on official statements and verified sources for accurate information. Hon. Cynthia Mamle Morrison remains focused on championing the needs and aspirations of the people of Agona West, with the aim of providing sustainable development and inclusive governance,” part of the statement read.

Cynthia Morrison is one of the three members of parliament who has made their intentions clear to contest the 2024 general election as an independent candidate.

The others are MP for Suhum, Kwadwo Asante, MP for and Amenfi Central Peter Kwakye-Ackah. Additionally, the MP for Fomena, Andrew Amoako Assiamah, who entered the 8th Parliament as an independent candidate, has said he will contest the 2024 election on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
