Energy Commission: Over 20 fail Electrical Wiring certification, 783 pass

Over 20 electricians have been denied certificates after they failed various tests put together by the Energy Commission to ensure professionalism among electricians.

At the 11th Certification ceremony for Electrical Wiring Professionals (CEWPs) held by the Energy Commission, it was disclosed that 783 individuals representing about 74.2% passed the various certification requirements.

He said,out of the 1,055 candidates who registered and sat for various categories of the Nov/Dec 2018 electrical wiring examination nationwide,  He said over 20 personnel of its members have been seized to work with an immediate effect due to the unprofessional job given out on the field to the public.

The ceremony held at the GNAT Hall in Kumasi Wednesday brought together excited electrical wiring professionals who told www.rawgist.com they are eager to be deployed to serve the country.

Programmes Officer for the Energy Commission Mr. Stephen N-ebe Yomoh hoped the high rate of domestic fire outbreaks would be reduced drastically due to the work of these certified Electrical Wiring Personnel.

He advised the general public to look only engage certified personnel to do their wiring work for them since it will save them a lot of anguish in the future.

The move is in line with the enforcement of the Electrical Wiring Regulation 2011; LI 2008 which require that only electricians certified by the Energy Commission can undertake electrical wiring works.

The Energy Commission is determined to go all out to ensure the quack electricians are weed out of the system. It is therefore illegal for any uncertified electrician to carry out wiring works..

Offenders of this regulation can be jailed for two years or fined GHC3,000 (250 penalty units) when apprehended.

Additionally, any facility which is wired by an uncertified electrician will also not be connected by the utilities companies.
