Nana Owusu Acheampong, a philanthropist in the Atwima Kwanwoma district of the Ashanti Region has called on private individuals as well as corporate organizations to help to enroll the aged and the frail in the society on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
This, he noted will help these category of people to access health care at the hospital using the NHIS platform.
Mr Acheampong stressed in an interview last Sunday at Kokoben, a community in the district that it was important that all citizens no matter their ages are encouraged to be on board the NHIS platform.
Accessing care with the NHIS card, the philanthropist said has become the order of the day since that provides the easy way to get treatment at the hospital.
‘’It is important that all persons especially the aged and widows are supported by both private individuals and corporate organizations to enroll on the NHIS so as to enable them access care at the hospital with ease’’, Nana Owusu Acheampong posited.
REGISTRATION:
Two (200) hundred women predominantly the aged and widows were later in the day registered on the NHIS since that was a promise made by the philanthropist during the mother’s day celebration.
Funding the exercise, the Atwima resident and policy analyst indicated his desire to carry similar exercise for aged men and others who may need to be on the NHIS platform.
Theresa Aidoo, a 60 year old beneficiary commended the philanthropist for the gesture and noted that but for the exercise it would have been difficult for her to get an NHIS card to visit the hospital.
Sarah Oduro, a 50 year old widow said she decided to make herself available for the exercise so she can possess the NHIS card to attend hospital at all times to access care.
SKILLS TRAINING:
Mr Acheampong hinted this reporter that there would skills training for all residents of the community who are yet to be employed.
This project, he noted would be rolled out to give opportunity to persons who can use their talents in studying a trade or skill to do so.
The idea, he explained would be to harness the skill of residents to ensure they are supported to make a living out of what they learn during the program at the district.
‘’As a person who has benefitted from the opportunities I had from this community I am also giving back in the form of skills training to ensure those who have the interest to learn a trade or skill do so to become useful citizens’’, Nana Acheampong passionately hinted.
