Enrolled and Community Health nurses in the country are expected to partially withdraw services as the ministry of health according to them has failed to guarantee their career progression as well as improvement in their condition of service.
The Certificate Nurses have been agitating for a job evaluation that would lead to better pay under the Single Spine pay policy. They are also calling for a system that would allow them to upgrade their qualification from certificates into Diplomas.
“Look at the Senior enrolled nurses who have worked for 35 years, their conditions are nothing to write home about. Somebody coming out today as Junior nurse with diploma is better than the old enrolled nurses titled Superintendent enrolled nurses”, he said.
They say despite their many years of experience on the job, they are still required to enter nursing training colleges with the West Africa Senior Secondary certificates, situation they say is unacceptable.
Last year the enrolled Nurses threatened to strike if the Ghana Health Service failed to do something to change the situation.
But the President of the Enrolled and Community Nurses Association, Fredrick Limbe tells rawgist.com nothing positive has happened despite government’s assurance that a top- up course will be introduced to enable them upgrade themselves this year, adding their checks so far indicate that the upgrading programme is not likely to begin any time soon.
Frederick Limbe says without an assurance letter, the certificate nurses will limit their services to only their job description.
