A Ghanaian Environmentalist and climate scientist, Dr. Benjamin Apraku Gyampo is calling for a reversal of the policy that allows for the production and export of Charcoal from Ghana.
Dr. Gyampo says charcoal exportation and use should not be encouraged as its production has dire consequences on the environment.
Government policy maintains that, forests in the country should be conserved yet, its agencies including the Ghana Energy Commission issues licenses to people to produce charcoal for local consumption and also on large scale for exports.
Dr. Gyampo tells rawgist.com it would be prudent for the country to desist from acts that deplete the ozone layer and the environment at large as the world strives to fight climate change.
He emphasised the need for Ghana to strive to be a significant part of the fight against climate change since the phenomenon has no physical borders but affects all countries.
