Teachers and pupils of the Esereso District Assembly (DA) school are living in fear as a life threatening erosion continues to erode portions of the classroom blocks in the School.
With cracked walls and leaking roofs, teachers and pupils at the school sit in fear and have to occasionally look up to the sky to avoid being maimed by the falling rocks from the dilapidated building.
This came to light during a tour of the facility by yours truly in the company of officials of Fox Fm, who had visited the school to present 85 pieces of dual desks to some children who were writing on the floor.
The gesture by the radio station, followed several appeals by residents and staff of the school who had to shelter kids in classrooms fit for the rearing of animals.
HEADMISTRESS:
Speaking to newsmen after taking delivery of the dual desks, Mrs Mary Gladys Baidoo, headmistress of the school commended the F-giant group for the gesture.
She bemoaned the current state of the school, noting the conditions in which the pupils studied was not the best.
Mrs Baidoo enumerated challenges facing the school including the lack of adequate classrooms to house the increasing numbers at the Esereso community, lack of Information and Communication Technology tools.
She mentioned the leaking roofs in the school as an immediate issue that was bothering them, adding the current rainy season prevent them from having lessons due to the water that runs through some of the classrooms.
FOX FM MANAGER:
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, Peter Nana Kwasi, General Manager of Fox Fm expressed sadness at the situation prevailing in the Esereso school.
He, however, noted the determination of the radio station to do all within its power to solicit support from both government and private citizens in the region to help bring the school to the status befitting a place of learning.
The dual desks, the GM said cost the radio station 4,900 and said some of the funds came from the station’s listeners as well as the Chief of Esereso.
He pledged to use the station to raise more funds to help the school and others in the region since such projects formed part of its corporate social responsibilities.
DCE:
In a brief chat with the District Chief Executive (DCE) later after the presentation, Lawyer Joseph Kwasi Asomaning promised to convey the grievances of the school administration to the appropriate quarters.
He stressed the need for pupils to learn in conducive conditions, adding school children perform better when they are provided with the needed incentives such as good classrooms and teaching aids.
