Late award-winning Ghanaian fashion designer, Kofi Ansah, will be awarded the highest honours, the “Lifetime Achievement Awards” at the maiden edition of the ‘Fashion Icon Awards’ scheduled for September 6, 2014.
The fashion maestro who was considered a pioneer in promoting modern African styles and design on the international stage died on Saturday, May 3 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital under unconfirmed circumstances.
His work, however, is legendary and is still recognised on many international platforms.
Also receiving the “Life Achievement Award” is legendary designer Mawuli Okudzeto of MKOGH fame.
Brand ambassador for the awards, Victoria Michaels, tells StarrFMonline.com the project is a platform designed to encourage and reward both local and international fashion houses, models and organisations who have contributed to Ghana’s fashion industry.
“The fashion industry has evolved; it has come a long way and there are people who have played a major role in pushing it this far, and it is just good to get the recognition they deserve.”
Michaels is a model who doubles as a marketing consultant. Associated with many brands including Bel-Aqua, MTN and Woodin are now the faces of the Fashion Icon Awards.
The event will come off on Saturday at the plush La Palm Beach Hotel, Accra; Ghana and tickets are going for 50Ghs.
The Red carpet event starts at exactly 6:00 GMT.
The night promises to be exciting as Miss Michaels says there will be performances from some of Ghana’s most talented musicians.
“There will be live performances from Wiyaala Noella, Sala, Chemphe and Afro Soul/Pop singer Irene Logan.”
Minister of Tourism, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare is the guest of honour.
There will also be other celebrated fashion designers, the likes of Allan David Collection, House of Eccentric and Mina Evans showcasing their works.
The event will also be broadcasted live by Channel 5 TV network on Multi TV Cable, Spice TV, and Channel 192 on DSTV.
