THE GHANA Anti-corruption coalition (GACC) has called on every patriotic citizen to get involved in the fight against corruption in the Ghanaian society.
Mr. Samuel Harrison-Cudjoe, research officer of the organization, explained that, corruption has become the number one enemy of development in the various districts and localities, hence the need for every concerned citizen to get involved in the fight against the canker.
He observed that,most of the communities lag far behind in terms of development infrastructure hence the need to attach some seriousness to the fight against corruption irrespective of ones political affiliation.
He says examples should be made of corrupt persons no matter their status. This, he believes will deter others from corrupt behavior.
These comments were made at a sensitization programme for the Atwima Nwabiagya district Assembly on the theme: Building partnership in the fight against corruption.
The event aimed at enlightening participants on the need to be accountable and voluntarily honour tax obligations.
Mr Emmanuel Kofi Antwi, District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), also entreated duty bearers and public office holders to ensure confidence and trust between themselves and whistle blowers in promoting the fight against corruption.
Faustina Djabatey of the Communications Department, explained that, the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition is a unique cross sectoral grouping of eight public, private and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) which include CDD, Ghana Conference of Religions for Peace, Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), IEA and private Enterprise Federation (PEF) focused on promoting good governance and fighting corruption in Ghana.
