Fire has destroyed some medical supplies at the Tamale Teaching Hospital laboratory store.
The fire that started on Wednesday at about 8:30am, was controlled before it could cause a massive damage.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Ahmed Farid, the floor on which the laboratory store is located housed four other stores – the general goods store, medical store, stationary store and pharmacy store.
He noted however, that the fire did not spread to those stores since personnel from the Ghana Fire Service were swift in their response and were able to quench the fire within 15 minutes.
According to Ahmed Farid, the fire managed to destroy the medical supplies in the building, but the building was not affected.
Some of the items destroyed included malaria test kits, lancets and EDTA tubes.
The Public Relations Officer allayed fears of the public, saying, the fire would not affect health service delivery at the hospital.
