Contributors of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) in Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North District of Ashanti Region will no longer struggle to claim their benefits.
Earlier, contributors have had to travel all the way to Kumasi; the regional capital , Ahenkoro, Dormaa and Goaso in the Brong Ahafo Region in order they can either contribute or claim benefits.
This has compelled former Ashanti Regional Minister and a Presidential Staffer who hails from the area to acquire rented offices for SSNIT officials to enable them bring their work to the doorstep of the constituents.
Hon. Peter Anarfi Mensah tells rawgist.com the move is born out of the struggles workers in the district go through to reach SSNIT officials.
Speaking exclusively to the rawgist.com reporter, the Minister urged workers both in formal and informal sectors of the Ghanaian economy to take their contribution seriously so they can earn monies during their retirement age.
Mr. Patrick Agbeli, Trust manager, Dormaa. Ahenkoro and Goaso branches stated that every work is expected to contribute a percentage of their income to guarantee a reliable source of money in future when one is incapacitated or too old to work.
He urged employees to report employers who refuse to pay their contributions to their numerous offices with the assurance that their reports will be handled confidentially.
“It is an offense for any employer to avoid paying the contributions of their employees”, he said and added that such culprits would be prosecuted.
