Only one of the five surgical theatres at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) is functioning.
This is due to the breakdown of the central air-conditioning system at the main theatres in the hospital.
The situation is said to be affecting the operations of the hospital as it cannot handle many surgery cases now.
Emergency cases
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mr Misbao Mohammed, had stated that the hospital has put in place measures to enable it attend to emergency cases. According to him, surgeries are carried out on patients who needed immediate attention.
“For now we deal with emergency cases according to the urgency and priority of the cases after a careful and thorough assessment of them,” he explained.
Repair works
Speaking to the Daily Graphic in Tamale, Mr Mohammed explained that “it is not the equipment at the theatres that are not functioning; the problem is the breakdown of the central air conditioning system, which management is working hard to fix”.
According to him, engineers were currently working to repair the system. He said in the interim, the hospital had procured some air conditioners for the theatres, adding that one had been installed.
