Students especially boarding house students at the Nyinahini Roman Catholic Senior High School at the Atwima Mponua District are living in fear due to the high handed attitude of their senior house master, Elder Paul Afoakwa.
Elder Afoakwa is alleged to be engaging in summary dismissals as well as wanton deboardinization of students anytime they are accused of something bad.
At the time of filing this report, over 40 boarding students who are writing their final exams under the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) were doing so as day students because the Senior House Master summarily accused them of breaking school rules.
Last week, Elder Afoakwa made two boarding house students, Emmanuel Agyei and Kwabena Kusi pick their trunks and chop boxes home because he had seen them step out to buy food in the evening.
Elder Afoakwa without any test insisted these two boys had by their actions brought corona virus into the school and subsequently sacked them.
CONFRONTATION:
Hearing her child had been sacked from the boarding house, Madam Felicia Agyei, mother of Emmanuel Agyei followed up to the school to learn at first hand what might have happened.
Narrating her ordeal at the hands of the Senior House Master to this reporter, Madam Agyei said she was verbally abused by Elder Afoakwa when she asked what his son had done to warrant a dismissal from the boarding house.
Madam Agyei noted that not only did her appeal for clemency fall on deaf ears but the Elder literally abused her verbally and in her presence accused the two students as carriers of COVID-19.
She tearfully said not even the plea by both the MCE and DCE for Nsuta and Atwima Mponua respectively who called on phone to speak to Elder Afoakwa could make him to soften his stance.
APPEAL:
Making an appeal, Madam Agyei called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to carry out an investigation into the actions of the house master.
She noted that the actions and attitude of the Tutor was putting fear into the students who are at the boarding house and were writing the final exams.
Madam Agyei said the claim by Elder Afoakwa that her boy and others have contracted corona virus was not only absurd but demeaning to the childrens’ images.
She therefore appealed to the Education Minister to take particular interest in the attitude of some tutors in SeniorHigh schools, especially Elder Afoakwa since his likes are frustrating the impact of the free SHS on some students and parents.
