Some Fulani Herdsmen have attacked nurses working at Dwerebease CHPs Compound in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern region.
The Fulani Herdsmen allegedly stormed the health facility in an attempt to ransack the facility leading to an altercation and gunshots.
The Fulani herdsmen, however, managed to take away a motorbike belonging to the facility but was later retrieved by some residents of the community who later got wind of the attack after the Fulanis went hiding in the bush.
“The clinic and the Bungalow are located on the outskirts of the community, so yesterday we were there when the Fulani herdsmen stormed the clinic, apparently they were returning from the bush and without provocation began attacking the facility.
“They initially asked for food, and when we told them we don’t have food they started to attack and attempted to take away some items from the Clinic. They finally took away our motorbike but because there was no key they hid it in the bush,” a Nurse narrated.
She continued, “the Fulani herdsmen fired gunshots at the Clinic but luckily no one was hurt.”
Information gathered indicates that the Kwahu East District Director of Health after a meeting with the nurses, ordered for their withdrawal from the community for their safety adding that the attack on nurses by the Fulani herdsmen has been repetitive.
But the Krontihene of Dwerebease, Nana Danso Agyei and his elders have intervened pleading to the nurses to remain at post as efforts are made to provide them adequate security through the Community Watch-Dog committee.
Dwerebease is notorious for clashes between Fulani herdsmen and Farmers which have led to deaths and injuries. The farmers in the community have been at loggerheads with the weapon-wielding Fulani herdsmen over the destruction of their farms.
