We Rise Foundation, a humanitarian NGO in collaboration with the Ghana Society of the Physically Disable have organized a one day sports and fund raising Program at the Paa Joe Stadium, KNUST.
The 5th March, 2016 day event had its core value centered on the power of philanthropy and charity to advocate for the physically challenged in our society.
The program brought together so many supporting denominations which notably included; Ghana Association of Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (GADRES), Center for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies (CEDRES) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kessben Group of Companies and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Students Representative Council (KNUST SRC).
Also, distinguished and noticeable personalities graced this stupendous program.
Remarkably noting was the Member of Parliament elect on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Oforikrom Constituency; Dr. Emmanuel Marfo who sponsored this wonderful occasion. In an exclusive interview with rawgist.com, Dr. Marfo
“There is a need to factor disability into our thinking and our thoughts. So, I decided to partner and organize this program on campus to enlighten students about the potentials of disability people” he highlighted.
Furthermore, the MP elect, supported Rise Foundation who were the engineers of this program with a seed of GH₵1500 in cheque and again, donated two wheel chairs to the Disabled Society.
There were a lot of magic moments in soccer and basket ball which spiced the program. The National Amputee Soccer Team drew 2-2 with the Rise Foundation Soccer Team in a keenly contested as well as an entertaining match to climax the program. After the game, the abled captain of the National Amputee Soccer Team registered his satisfaction at the turn of events but was quick to add that they have been more times neglected by their leaders.
Speaking with rawgist.com, “Last year, we were supposed to go and play African Cup but we could not go because of poor organization. This year we are hoping for the World Cup but I must say that since we came back in 2014, we are just roaming about aimlessly even our leaders are nowhere to be found so we do not know what is happening currently” Baba Abdallah Safia recounted.
In closing remarks, the Patrons of We Rise Foundation; Mr and Mrs Okyere Mensah registered their profound gratitude to all and sundry who contributed one way or the other to the program and pleaded for extended hands to continue this worthy course.
