A famous New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth group by name Patriotic Youth Alliance (PYA) has commended the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for nominating Dr Baffuor Awuah, a known medical practitioner at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) as acting Director-General at the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The group said despite they knowing that Dr Awuah is a member of the NPP, the medical practitioner is also qualified for the position as nominated to act until final approval by the GHS Board.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper Friday morning, Thomas Boakye, one of the leaders of the group said Dr Awuah possesses all the competencies to distinguish himself as Director-General.
He noted that the group believes the nominee has the capacity to deliver on the mandate that would be given him.
‘’Dr Baffuor Awuah has over the past 25 years attained academic and practicing experience distinguishing himself as a consultant-oncologist at KATH since 2010 to date’’, the group’s spokesperson noted.
FALSE CLAIMS:
The spokesperson rebutted claims that the medical practitioner was a card bearing member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
They wondered how the current Health Minister, Dr Kwaku Agyeman Manu would appoint an NDC man as his special advisor on technical matters.
Dr Baffuor Awuah, the group revealed has consistently contributed his quota to the party and has distinguished himself in every capacity the party has assigned to him previously.
The group said their delight apart from the health practitioner being a member of the NPP is in the fact that he has every qualification, capacity, competence, experience and integrity to handle and manage the office of the DG of the GHS.
‘’We take this opportunity to rebut all false claims by the NDC whose pre-occupation is to oppose anyone with good intentions to provide service to the nation and to reinforce the point that Dr Awuah would help scale up service delivery by the GHS’’, Mr Boakye intimated.
BACKGROUND CHECKS:
A native of Denkyira, Dr Baffuor Awuah hails from a town called Nyinwusu in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
Having a sibling by name Augustina Hagan, a former Women’s organizer of the NPP from1992-2000 and a nephew by name, Isaac Awuah who currently holds office as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Upper Denkyira West Assembly, Dr Awuah comes from a strong NPP family.
A proud financial contributor to the party, Dr Baffuor Awuah according to records have since 2000 supported both the party and its youth and student wings for the party’s congresses anytime it is held outside the Central Region by ferrying them.
Dr Baffour Awuah, a famous face at KATH is loved by the media in Kumasi and has since his nomination enjoyed good will from practitioners including the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) branch in Ashanti.
When his nominations is approved by the GHS Board and confirmed by the President, Dr Baffuor Awuah would be taking over from Dr Anthony Nsiah Asare, the former DG who is now at the Presidency as Advisor on health issues.
