Ghana is expected to join the rest of the World tomorrow to mark International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers with a flag-raising and a wreath-laying ceremony to pay tribute to UN peacekeepers all over the world.
Ghana, one of the leading contributors of UN peacekeepers, is noted for its role in peace building in many countries all over the world. The day will serve as a memorial for the more than 3 200 military, police and civilian personnel who have died in the service of peace worldwide.
The day also serves to pay tribute to the men and women who are still serving in the various UN peacekeeping operations around the globe for their professionalism, dedication and courage.
The UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations says all UN offices along with member states of the world body and non-government organizations will hold events to honor peacekeepers.
This year’s theme is UN PEACEKEEPING: A Force for Peace. A Force for Change. A Force for the Future.
