A Ghanaian delegation is headed for La Cote d’ivoire to help resolve issues leading to a closure of the Ivorian border to about 59 trucks from Ghana.
The cargo trucks loaded with goods from the ports of Ghana have been denied entry into La Cote d’ Ivoire, in line with the enforcement of a trade directive by the Ivorian Ministry of Finance.
The truck drivers have for nearly a fortnight been stranded at the Elubo-Noe border.
The Ivorian government, per the new directive, insists that only cargo originating from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member countries will be allowed into Cote d’Ivoire, while goods from other parts of the world should be cleared at the seaport.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA), Dr Kofi Mbiah, tells rawgist.com his outfit is in talks with their Ivorian counterparts while a delegation is also headed for Ivory Coast to help find a solution to the situation
He however believes the directive if not reversed will have dire consequences for Ghana /Ivorian trade. He tells rawgist.com the move by the Ivorian authorities could rather be counterproductive as it may result in retaliatory moves by other countries within the sub region.
