A political scientist and lecturer at the Spiritan University; Kofi Owusu Yeboah has noted that Ghana is capable of managing its own resources without betrothing it to foreign partners.
According to him “all we need is committed and disciplined leadership”.
He said it is not difficult to manage them but our leaders don’t take the responsibility of it since they don’t consider it as their personal assets.
He was speaking in an interview on Royal Fm on the reasons why 90% of state assets are being handled by foreign partners.
Kofi Owusu Yeboah noted that the cause of such is due to lack of proper supervision.‘‘For instace some parts of our major stadia on which government spent huge amount of money have developed cracks but people who are responsible for its maintenance have neglected their duties’’.
He also attributed it to lack of business minded people to manage our facilities when they are commercialised. Not withstanding other matters he said politicistion of our resources has also contributed to such a challenge.
On his part former deputy Ashanti Regional minister, Joseph Yammin stated that government should not be blamed for such a situation.
‘‘Everything we tend to blame the government but the real culprits are not apprehended’’.
According to Hon.Yammin, since some civil servants have their political affiliations, they tend to stay unconcerned when a state property is in bad shape since their party might not be in power;adding that this is also happening in the christian fraternity.
