Gifty Klenam defects to NDC

Former Lower West Akim MP, Gifty Klenam, has officially defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). Klenam, who served in the Fourth and Fifth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic and later as CEO of the Ghana Export Promotion Centre (GEPC) under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration, announced her decision on Thursday.

She made her defection public after obtaining her NDC membership card in the Anlo Constituency of the Volta Region. Addressing journalists, Klenam cited ideological alignment and confidence in the NDC’s policies as reasons for her move. She stated that, after consulting with her family, she realized the NDC’s vision for Ghana resonated with her values.

Klenam expressed strong faith in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, believing it offers the best plan for Ghana’s progress. She praised former President John Mahama’s leadership and vision, stating that his governance would bring prosperity to the nation.

She also highlighted her commitment to working with the party’s grassroots to empower local communities and create opportunities, reducing youth migration abroad.

Her defection has sparked debate in Ghana’s political space, given her former prominence in the NPP and her past government role.
