The GN Bank sponsored Division One League kick started over the weekend among three zones across various league centers in the country.
Various results were churned out from zone one to zone three in varied magnitudes and degrees. However, in zone one, one critical incident that occurred was the beaten of match officials at Berekum Golden City Park in a match involving Berekum Arsenals and Real Tamale United.
According to match reports, the central referee and his two assistants together with the forth official were beaten brutally and mercilessly after they presided over a 1-1 drawn game between Berekum Arsenals and Real Tamale United.
It has been hugely alleged that home supporters of Berekum Arsenals committed this unsporting act in their wake to register their dissatisfaction against the performance of match officials on the day, who they believed influenced their one-one draw at the Golden City Park.
In confirmation to this allegation, the night of the whistle in the said match, Mr. Emmanuel Eshun explicitly and categorically blamed Berekum Arsenal Supporters for their predicaments.
In an exclusive interview with the media, the central referee Emmanuel Eshun, “We have been beaten, the four of us have been properly beaten. Our crime is that we didn’t score a goal for them, our crime is that we the officials didn’t use our legs to score for them (Berekum Arsenal Supporters)” he lamented.
On the contrary, the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association is yet to come out with a decision on this matter.
