Government has denied agreeing to a-14.5-percent hike in the daily minimum wage for workers. This would have brought the new wage to GH¢6 from the current GH¢5.25.
Some parties close to the Tripartite Committee, yesterday, disclosed to Joy News that they have agreed on this amount.
Joy News also gathered from organized labour that the meeting also agreed on a 5-percent increase in salaries for public sector workers as cost of living allowance.
But speaking to Joy News’ George Wiafe, Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the figure put out is not accurate.
“The claim made is neither here nor there and Government will refrain from commenting on the issue [until a definitive response is made on the matter] after negotiations are finalized by tomorrow,” he asserted.
According to the deputy minister, an agreement was reached by the tripartite committee that “all the issues under consideration will be resolved comprehensively as supposed to isolating them and addressing them”.
This, the committee agreed will be achieved, if all parties refrain from commenting on the issue in the media in order not to jeopardize the outcome of further negotiations, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu indicated.
“We want to respect the agreement that was reached yesterday and we believe that if that is done, it will lead to an effective and speedy resolution of the matter by tomorrow,” he noted.
