Govt justifies decision to engage SUBAH in street naming exercise

Government has justified the decision to engage SUBAH InfoSolutions to procure motorbikes for its street naming exercise in all the 216 districts.

Government says the IT firm met all procurement requirements.

The Local Government Ministry has begun the process of street naming across the country as equipment needed has been procured.

Street Naming Ghana Limited and Subah InfoSolutions are the two companies which won the contract to provide the needed equipment for the project.

BABA-jamalA letter intercepted by Joy News and addressed to all Regional Ministers from the Local Government Ministry said Subah InfoSolutions Limited has been tasked to supply motorbikes for the street naming exercise.

Street Naming Ghana Limited will also be responsible for other office equipment, accessories and softwares.

The letter dated 30th April 2013 informed the regional ministers to ask metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies under them to issue cheques for the two companies to undertake the exercise.

Meanwhile, Deputy Local Government Minister, Baba Jamal told Joy News the contract was delivered after it went through competitive bidding and the procurement process adhered to.

The procurement process travelled as long as eight years, he said, adding that the process went beyond the ministerial tender level to the national tender board.

“If they don’t meet the criteria they wouldn’t have been given the contract,” Baba Jamal said.

Though he was not able to give the actual figure, he said the project is expected to cost the nation about 5 to 6 million dollars.
