Govt outlines policies to revitalise forestry sector
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has outlined the government’s transformative policies and institutional reforms to revitalise the forestry sector.
The initiatives include the Tree for Life programme, training of Blue Water Guards, engagement with parliamentarians on land restoration and enhanced protection of the nation’s forest cover.
Mr Buah, who was interacting with a delegation from the World Bank Ghana, led by Country Director Mr Robert Taliercio O’Brien on Monday in Accra, highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening partnership with the World Bank to advance investments in the forest economy, particularly in job creation.
The Country Director, Mr Robert Taliercio O’Brien, reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s forest economy for sustainable growth.
“The Bank’s focus will include agroforestry projects, restoration of degraded forests and youth employment opportunities,” he said.
The partnership will generate jobs, improve livelihoods and promote sustainable forest management practices.
Additionally, the initiative aligns with Ghana’s broader goals of reducing carbon footprint and contributing to global climate change mitigation efforts.
