The Ghana Registered Nurses Association says it is unhappy with the strike action being embarked on by student nurses and midwifes.
The students have withdrawn their services from hospitals to protest their two years unpaid allowances.
Doctors and Nurses would now have to work double their efforts as the students perform some 40% of all clinical duties in hospitals nationwide.
Their strike comes at a time the nurses to patient ratio of the country is woeful.
However the mother professional body says the action goes against the ethics of their profession.
President of the GRNA, Asante Krobea in an interview with Kumasi based Ultimate Radio said, the student nurses and midwives took a hasty decision.
He said even though student nurses have the right to strike, the association is against the move.
Mr. Krobea Asante also said, the striking nursing and midwifery students met with the ministry and the GRNA on Monday and received assurances from the minister of health who communicated with the presidency in their presence.
He said “the strike came as a shock to the association as the students didn’t show any sign they would embark on the nationwide strike action”.
The Ministry of Health has also stated, it is unaware of the strike action declared by the nurses.
According to Public Relations officer of the Ministry Tony Goodman, a meeting between the ministry and the trainees on Monday concluded with no motive of a strike action as the ministry was working to resolve their issues.
Tony Goodman revealed that, the outgoing minister Sherry Ayittey was surprised to hear of the strike action.
