Gyan targets one more World Cup

AsamoahStriker Asamoah Gyan wishes to lead Ghana to the 2018 World Cup in four years time, Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic has revealed.

The Black Stars captain will be 32 by the time of the next World Cup, which will be hosted by Russia.

Doubts are rife as to whether the ex-Sunderland hitman will still be in good form enough to lead the Black Stars to the next finals with him approaching the twilight of his career.

But Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic, who saw his most important player commit his future to the club by signing a two-year contract extension earlier this week, has revealed Gyan remains determined to be at the World’s biggest football event for the fourth successive time.

“Gyan wishes to appear in the World Cup in Russia for the fourth time,” he disclosed.

The Black Stars captain was presented with honours on his return to his club for pre-season training following his milestone performance at the recent World Cup staged in Brazil.

The 28-year-old finished the tournament that saw Ghana exit after the group stage as the all-time top scorer for his country and also now holds the record as the African with the most goals scored in the history of the World Cup finals.
