The NPP government says it has done a lot to better the lots of Muslim pilgrims who embark on the annual Hajj trip compared to the erstwhile NDC government.
At the first ever stakeholder consultation programme held by the Ghana Hajj Board in Kumasi, Sheik I.C. Quaye outlined some positives brought in by the NPP government to make things better for the Muslim pilgrims.
The Programme brought together Hajj agents, chiefs, mallams, and the general public.
Sheik IC Quaye who led the programme explained that the Saudi government has given Ghana a quota of 6,200 a significant boost compared to the 5,000 the country had in the previous administration.
He also explained that Ghana is the first country in the world to have paid the Hajj commitment fee to the Saudi government and paid $1m out of the $2.7m debt left by the NDC government on flights.
Sheik I.C. Quaye encouraged Muslims who couldn’t make it to the last Hajj to be patient since government is making arrangements to enable the over 400 pilgrims who missed out on the last pilgrimage to have their turn as well.
From the Kumasi Central Mosque where the programme was held, Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong; Hon. Alidu Seidu hosted Sheik I.C. Quaye and the entourage that came for the programme.
