Health Ministry rubbishes NDC claims on condoms

The Ministry of health has parried off claims of impropriety by the import of special condoms for use by the public.

In a statement signed by the Ministry and made available to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, the Ministry said the bidding for the supply of the condom was on competitive scale.

It continued that none of the companies mentioned by the NDC was part of the tender process held by the Ministry.

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the statement noted after a preliminary evaluation conducted quality testing to ensure the condoms were of high grade.

OTHER DETAILS:

The Ministry noted only those condoms that passed the quality testing were evaluated financially.

The company that offered the least price, the statement stated was chosen to supply the condoms.

In accordance with the Public Procurement Law, the Ministry stressed recommendations of the evaluation report were sent to the Central Tender Review Committee.

Proper scrutiny, the statement added was then conducted on the condoms before approval was given.

The statement also noted that Public Procurement Authority (PPA) does not give approval for recommendations for award of a contract as the NDC claimed in the story it had put out by a news portal.

Finally, the statement said the law requires that the results of all tenders are published at the PPA website, noting that was exactly what the Ministry of Health did.
