Ghana News–Kingsley E. Hope, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has expressed the association’s sympathies to the family of the deceased newscaster of Bekwai based DESS FM.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper in Kumasi Tuesday, Mr Hope noted with pain the gruesome manner Agyeiwaa Kodie, the newscaster had to die last Sunday at her residence.
He, however, assured the family of the Association’s readiness to support the family and the Police to unravel the mystery about the death of the newscaster.
According to him, it is becoming worrisome how journalists are treated in the line of duty, adding this is the second gruesome murder happening to a practitioner in the region.
‘’I am very disturbed with the passing of Agyeiwaa Kodie and even though details are yet to be uncovered regarding her death it is becoming worrying knowing that our first GJA Chairman, Samuel Enning was also mysteriously shot and killed about 10 years ago’’, Mr Hope sobbed.
POLICE:
The GJA chairman urged the Ashanti Police to hasten the pace of investigation into the death of the 30 year old newscaster.
This, he noted will help calm the fears of the family as well as bring to light the identity of the culprits for possible prosecution.
The family of Agyeiwaa, the Chairman also noted needed to know why and what happened leading to the death of the ambidextrous reporter and front desk executive.
The Chairman entreated the Police to continue with the efforts of unraveling the mysterious death of the Association’s first Chairman, Samuel Enning.
CAUTION:
The chairman has reminded journalists about the dangers of the profession and urged them to take their personal security serious.
According to him, the job demands that practitioners apply all ethics and rules governing the profession but added that they needed to take precautions in all they do.
‘’No story is worth dying for but go out with a clear conscience while you do all the due diligence and follow ups with caution and care’’, Mr Hope advised.
