Thursday’s heavy rains have left several people stranded as they have no place to call home.
The situation is particularly dire at mpatuom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region.
The rain which lasted about 5 hours was accompanied by strong winds that ripped roofs off several buildings most of which are houses of residents. Schools, market structures, churches as well as electricity poles were also not spared.
Unit Committee Chairman for the area; Joseph Andoh explains that the situation has made life difficult for the residents as they are at their wits end and don’t know how to handle the situation.
“Over 50 people are now homeless and property running into thousands of Ghana cedis were destroyed”, he explained.
He said Mpatuom D/A and JHS roofs have also been ripped off by the heavy downpour; a situation that is already affecting teaching and learning.
Joseph Andoh also hints that NADMO officials are currently accessing the situation to find the extent of destruction while most of the victims are currently putting up with family members.
He was however thankful that no life has been lost.
