Ghana Entertainment News-Kumasi based Hello FM, a subsidiary of the Despite Group of Companies last Saturday night swept two awards at the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards ceremony in Accra.
Taking home the award for the best station in the area of rural reporting earlier, Hello Fm added the best station in the Ashanti Region to complete the rout for the night.
Having carved a niche for itself in rural reporting and talk shows in the Kumasi metropolis, Hello Fm can now boast of being the best in the Ashanti region which interestingly has almost 100 radio stations spread across its length and breadth.
With programs such as ‘BO HO BIO’ (a current affairs program in the Akan language) hosted by the veteran and versatile Sampson K. Nyamekye and Hello Fm Kokrokooo (morning show) which is hosted by the effervescent King Edward, the station continues to enjoy massive listenership.
REACTION:
Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper, the General Manager of the station, Sampson K. Nyamekye expressed delight at the feat.
Mr Nyamekye commended the GJA for recognizing the station’s modest contribution to the development of the country.
He dedicated the honor to the owner of the Despite Group, Mr Osei Kwame Despite, the hardworking staff, workers as well as listeners of Hello Fm.
Mr Nyamekye, however, noted the award brings a challenge to them to work even more to ensure they positively affect the lives of the people in the region and beyond.
‘’As the General Manager for Hello Fm I feel elated that our modest contribution has been acknowledged by our umbrella body, the GJA and I believe this puts an enormous task on us to do more to positively affect those who listen to us’’, Mr K.Nyamkeye stressed.
INITIATIVES:
The GM disclosed plans by his outfit to carry out more social programs in the metropolis and other areas in the region.
This, he noted will help the station get to know the challenges those living in the metropolis and beyond are facing.
Mr Nyamekye believes the work of a good radio station is to seek to understand the problems the people face each day.
After learning of these challenges, the GM opined the station can help trumpet same for authorities especially government officials to work to addressing them.
‘’We are dedicated to working for the betterment of the society and as a radio station we are also ready to go to every length to report the challenges people are facing in the communities they live so that government can work to address same’’, the GM posited.
