“The herdsmen and their cattle are back in Agogo”. This is the cry of the krontihene of Asante Akyem Agogo.
Nana Kwame Nti tells rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi elders of the town are preparing to launch a passionate appeal to President Nana Akufo-Addo through the new District Chief Executive for the area.
The chief who spoke on the sidelines of a town hall meeting organized by MTN at Asante Akyem Agogo explained sadly that “Our mainstay here is farming but unfortunately, the herdsmen and their cattle are making it difficult for us to farm”. By the time you arrive at the farm, the cattle have already destroyed the produce.
“We need government’s help with this nuisance the herdsmen and their cattle are causing”, he voiced, adding “we recently got our District Chief Executive and we are going to meet with him on this menace.
Agogo is a farming community in the Ashanti Region of Ghana with a population of over 30,000. Agogo is approximately 80 kilometers east of Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region. Farmers have protested for several years the destruction of their farm produce and attacks on the citizenry by herdsmen popularly referred to as Fulani herdsmen.
