I desire a Ghana with zero deaths in breast cancer-Dr. Beatrice Wiafe Addai

Ghana News-The Chief Executive Officer for Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Mrs Beatrice Wiafe Addai says her desire is to see a Ghana where no death is recorded from breast cancer.

This, she said is possible if stakeholders in the health industry collectively increase the awareness creation drive about the disease.

According to her, breast cancer is curable when it is detected early since there are treatment therapies available once it is diagnosed and detected early.

Speaking at separate functions at the End-Time Ministry, Krofrom Methodist Church as well as the Kumasi Central Market where she interacted and medically screened Christians, traders as well as Kayaye, Dr Wiafe Addai said effects on persons with breast cancer is severe.

‘’I urge you all especially my female folk to constantly examine your breasts so that anytime there is unusual occurrence you could hurriedly report same to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment’’, the cancer surgeon reiterated.

NHIA BOSS:

Speaking at the Kumasi Central Market where a medical screening and NHIS registration exercise was put together by Kunata Voluntary Organization and BCI for the Kayaye, Dr Samuel Annor, chief executive officer for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) commended the two non-governmental organizations for the effort.

He noted government could not do all that is needed to be done in the health sectir alone and would need the commitment of Kunata and BCI to augment its efforts.

Dr Annor announced that the NHIA is almost done with a system where people wanting to register with the NHIS scheme could do so on their mobile phones.

This, he mentioned is to make the service available to everyone in the country as well as make it accessible with less struggle.

CHURCH LEADERS:

Participating in the medical screening exercise after a lecture on breast, cervical and prostrate cancers, Reverend Mary Afoakwa of the End-Time Ministry commended BCI for the gesture.

According to her, two of her members had died from breast cancer since they had no knowledge about the disease.

Reverend Paulina Pieterson of the Krofrom Methodist Church noted the timely nature of the screening and on behalf of the church thanked Dr Wiafe Addai for her generosity.

Many in the church, she noted scarcely visit the hospital to undertake check-ups , adding the admonition by the BCI leader for periodic visits to the hospital as well as the performance of self checks on the breasts is crucial.
