I didn’t mean to disrespect the President, I had a duty to perform-Armah Buah on SONA speech

Minister Designate for Lands and Natural resources; Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah says he had no intention of disrespecting the person of former President Nana Addo-Dankwa Akufo Addo when he delivered some scathing remarks about his government following delivery of his last State of the Nation address.

Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah however came face to face with his comments Monday 27th January, 2025 when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament to be vetted as Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.

MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri; Frank Annoh-Dompreh quoted Mr. Armah Buah’s utterances as captured in the Hansard of Friday 3rd July, 2025 to him and asked him what he made of his speech and whether he would want to apologise for any of his words.

“Mr. Speaker, I need to remind you that the people of Ghana have already given their verdict on the true state of the Nation and the verdict is very clear; economic hardship, huge debt overhung, high youth unemployment, hopelessness and more. We have come to the end of the road for what has been undoubtedly the worst government of the 4th Republic…” Mr. Buah who was also Deputy Majority leader is quoted as saying.

When asked whether he would want to retract and apologize for some of those words, Mr. Buah said he was just performing his duty as Deputy Majority leader and reflecting the views of the people of Ghana. He added that the views were to his government and not the person of the Former President.

“I have enormous respect for President Akufo Addo and any President that will occupy this highest seat of our land because the decisions they are confronted with are enormous and grave. And so I don’t think we take that lightly at all. As deputy Majority leader, I had a duty that day and I believe those are words that resonated with the people of Ghana” he explained.
END.
