Ghana’s latest political sensation, a 22-year old New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for Kwabre East says one of her campaign messages before her shocking win, was a pledge to donate three months’ salary to the party annually.
“I will give my three months’ salary annually to the party which will cater for general welfare and to help the party during elections,” Francisca Oteng-Mensah revealed on Peace FM’s show ‘Kokrokoo’ Monday morning .
Francisca Oteng Mensah, a 22-year-old second year law student of the KNUST on Saturday, defeated the incumbent MP, Kofi Frempong in the primaries held Saturday in the Ashanti Region.
Political pundits were amazed at how the young lady pulled down an incumbent, a lawyer and two other male contenders especially in view of the perception that women stand disadvantaged in politics.
But according to Francisca, her message and campaign strategy helped her to victory.
Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview, Francisca said “the only magic is God. Apart from that my message and campaign strategy was very strong and that helped because other aspirants were attacking me but I didn’t respond and so the delegates realized I was using some form of maturity”.
She also detailed some of her contributions to the party saying, there is a party office built through her efforts.
“I have constructed a party office and handed over documents to the party office. I will also build a training centre, scholarship schemes in Kwabre East”.
