Ghana Local governance-The Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Hon Akwannuasa Gyimah has indicated his readiness to make the Asokwa community a modern city.
This follows the selection of the Municipality to participate in a project aimed at developing the community into a modern one.
Christened the Secondary City Development Project, the MCE says this initiative will provide an avenue for the Asokwa community to have its road network developed and upgraded with street light fittings across the streets.
In his maiden address to the general assembly and stakeholders of Asokwa, Hon Akwannuasa revealed the Assembly in the next few weeks will sign an agreement to benefit from the secondary city project.
RELOCATION:
The MCE expressed misgivings about the current location of the Assembly’s offices, adding working in rented premises is not the best for Asokwa.
He, however, mentioned plans to relocate from the current place, hinting the Assembly has three places or options to choose from.
The places the assembly are considering, he disclosed are; the old Ahinsan Post Office Block, the Kumasi Brewery Block and the State Housing Block behind the Kaase abattoir.
Site plans for these stated places, the MCE hinted have been submitted to the Ministry of Local Government for attention and advice.
REVIEW:
Hon Akwannuasa hinted of plans to sit with the KMA to review existing contracts it had with companies located within the Asokwa enclave.
According to him, once the Municipality has been created it is necessary that all assets that are within Asokwa are returned to the Asokwa Assembly.
‘’There have been a lot of contracts, projects and consultancy services that were entered into between the KMA and other parties which we need to adopt or review’’, Hon Akwannuasa stressed.
Example of such contracts, the MCE noted are; the land fill site at Oti, a new Agogo market and the construction of a transport terminal at Kyirapatre and its utilization process.
COMMENDATION:
The MCE, in rounding up commended the assembly members, chiefs, the MP and the people of Asokwa for supporting and endorsing his nomination without any hindrance.
He believes the show of trust is still needed for them to work to ensure they develop Asokwa to its befitting levels.
