Ghana Politics News-The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has fiercely posited that no amount of pressure from party people will make him use corrupt means to satisfy them.
Reacting to last Wednesday’s public show by some known New Patriotic Party (NPP) serial callers who burnt the phones they use to call into radio programs, the Minister decried the group’s attitude.
The Minister wondered how the burning of phones will help to address matters they were raising when they know the effort he has personally led to get them support.
Mr Osei Mensah told Kwabena Ampratwum of Silver FM, a Kumasi based radio station that he was not prepared to steal or corrupt his person to meet the increasing demands of the group.
‘’My brother let me tell you and the whole world that if I castigated NDC for being corrupt, I myself as a distinguished public servant will not steal public funds to satisfy people because they belong to the party I serve’’, the Regional Minister noted fiercely.
APPROACH:
The Regional Minister expressed worry about the approach the group used to get their grievances heard.
According to him, he has never refused to meet or discuss issues with them anytime they have approached him.
He recalled a recent encounter where some amount of 200gh cedis was agreed to be given to each of the 80 or so members so that it enables them to buy airtime to defend the party on radio.
The Minister therefore expressed surprise that rather than commending him and other appointees for their efforts some of them had jumped on radio to insult them.
‘’I am surprised that rather showing gratitude to the party and people in government for using part of their salary to keep the group running they show gross disrespect to some of us on radio by the churning of insults on our persons’’, Mr Osei Mensah wondered.
CAUTION:
Cautioning the group, Mr Mensah reminded them that such actions give a bad name to the party in the public eye.
He asked that as mature people they learn to show respect to authority by using proper channels to get their concerns addressed.
The use of insults on radio and other social media spaces, the Minister noted will not get them any help since no one in government is ready to be corrupted to dish out money to party people.
He mentioned the readiness of some of the appointees to confidently bow out of office if the President decides to reshuffle or relieve them of their appointments because their hands were clean.
‘’Some of us were living good lives before the President in his good wisdom found us worthy to serve in government and we shall not be struck down with poverty when we are relieved of our current positions’’, the Regional Minister emotionally posited.
