I’m devastated over High Court ruling – Bernard Mornah

Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has expressed deep disappointment following the High Court’s decision to uphold the Electoral Commission’s (EC) disqualification of his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election.

The court dismissed Mornah’s application to overturn the EC’s ruling, which was based on irregularities in his nomination forms.

The presiding judge, Justice Richard Appietu, stated that Mornah had failed to be meticulous in completing the forms, which led to his disqualification.

Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News on Monday, October 21, 2024, Mornah expressed his frustration, calling the court’s decision a “blow to democracy in Ghana.”

“Actually, I am devastated, to say the least, totally shocked at the level of decay that is gripping some sections of our judiciary. I am just wondering whether, in this way, we will be able to promote multiparty democracy and whether democracy is not under threat.

“What the judge sort to do is very appalling and because of that, I feel that we are a long way from democracy and we are close to anarchy,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Bernard Mornah has indicated that he will petition the Supreme Court in the coming days.
