Inspector General of Police (IGP); David Asante Apietu, has commissioned a Newly built Police station at Ahwiaa near Anwiankwanta in the Bekwai Municipality and charged Senior officers of the service to be more professional and innovative in the line of duty.
The Police station which was built by one Mr. Derek Danso Afriyie, a native of the community in response to a call by the immediate past Ashanti regional police commander COP Kofi Boakye to help build the station to beef up security in the community and its surrounding areas.
He said the Police administration is making every effort possible to make the service first class as far as policing is concerned.
He also expressed confidence in government’s plans for the Police and Policing and assured that Ghanaians would see a more professional police force in the near future.
He stressed the need for the public to always collaborate with the Police to help fight criminal activities in society.
He said the facility was provided by a philanthropist but now belongs to the state, and entreated the occupants to be more professional in order to win the support of the residents.
He cautioned the citizenry, especially the youth to desist from attacking the Police or face the full rigor of the law. He entreated them to rather help the Police protect lives and properties to reduce criminal activities in the area.
DCOP Ken Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, also commended Mr. Derek Danso for the kind gesture done the police administration, saying it would go a long way to help the Police protect lives and properties in a very professional way.
According to him the new Police Station is the 148th in the region and 17th in the Bekwai Municipality.
He said the new facility would help address the pressing incidents of crime in the area,as the Obuasi Anwiankwanta Road is known to be a robbery prone area. He also says the strategic location of the facility is commendable, considering that crime has risen in the area with increase in socioeconomic growth.
He stressed that, Policing is a sharer responsibility; and took the opportunity to request that the Police be supported with logistics.
Mr. Derek Danso Afriyie disclosed that, the gesture was his own way of contributing his quota to the development of the country and the fight against crime, adding that the gesture, to him, is a privilege to give back to the society.
