Former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has revealed that former President Jerry John Rawlings used to wash their baby’s napkins when they had their first child. According to her, her husband, the former President was really helpful in their children’s upbringing.
Speaking at KNUST on Thursday at a programme organized by KNUST GRASAG Women’s Commission under the theme ‘Stand out, Make a Mark’, the leader of the 31st Women’s movement urged parents and guardians to give their children the right upbringing in order to support their partners in a way that women expect their husbands to perform their duties. She says when it comes to women issues, no progress has been made so far to support them but have rather retrogressed.
“When i had my first child and we (my husband and I) decided that we do not want our mothers to be there and do what they wanted to do. My husband said you will take care of the child in the night (because of breast feeding and all that). In the morning, he is up so early washing the baby’s napkins. That is cooperation: because those days, we didn’t have pampers,”she stated.
The leader of National Democratic Party, NDP added that, numerous studies show that gender balance is good for business and as such, there need to be an attitudinal and cultural change in managerial and executive level in the corporate world.
She further called on government to have a deliberate intent through policies and effective implementation to create opportunities that allow women to move to political and managerial positions at the same rate as male counterparts.
It’s a great news! Well done KNUST authorities.
