Joan Gyan: We’ll not rest until Jean Mensa and her cohorts are removed – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has escalated its opposition to the Electoral Commission (EC) following the disqualification of their parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

The disqualification stemmed from an ongoing court case that questions her eligibility to contest in the 2024 general elections on the NDC’s ticket.

In response, the NDC filed an injunction on Thursday, October 17, seeking to prevent the EC from proceeding with the printing of parliamentary ballot papers and issuing the notice of poll for Amenfi Central.

The party aims to halt these processes until the legal challenges are resolved.

At a press conference the same day, NDC General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey, vehemently criticized the EC, singling out its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, for what he described as abuses of power.

He vowed that the NDC would not relent in its efforts to remove her from office, arguing that her leadership undermines the democratic process and violates the rule of law.

Kwetey stressed that the NDC is committed to ensuring that the people of Amenfi Central are not disenfranchised, asserting that the party will fight this battle “in the courts, on the streets, and in the hearts and minds of the people.”

The situation highlights the growing tensions between the NDC and the EC as the December 2024 elections approach, with both sides digging in for a prolonged battle over electoral integrity and representation.

“The NDC will not rest until the Electoral Commission is held fully accountable for this disgraceful abuse of power. We will not rest until the people of Amenfi Central have their rightful representative in Parliament, chosen freely and fairly by the people, not by an overreaching and corrupt institution.

“We will not rest until Jean Mensa and her cohorts are removed from office and replaced by 15 individuals who genuinely respect the rule of law and the democratic principles that guide this nation.

“We will fight this battle on every front in the courts, on the streets, and in the hearts and minds of the people. The NDC will continue to fight for the soul of this nation because we know that the forces of darkness, those who conspire to undermine our democracy shall not prevail.

Democracy will win. Justice will win. The people will win.”
