KATH To Spend GHC60, 000.00 On “Unnecessary” Emergency Board Meeting Today!
At a time the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital đ„ (KATH) is mobilising resources to refurbish its 70 year old building and retool same for proper care giving, it appears its Board Chairman is unconcerned and its oblivious of the urgency of the matter.
Rather than show care and work with prudence, the Chairman has called for an emergency Board meeting today, Wednesday, to discuss ways the members could use to dispense with the services of its legal attorney, Nana Freduah Agyeman who was recently employed.
The crime of the lawyer is that he failed to file an application in oppostion to an injunction application earlier filed by Mr Elvis Kusi, the Director of Finance who is challenging moves to make his current position vacant which is contrary to terms of his earlier engagement.
Despite protestations from nine other members on the matter since the substantive matter was yet to be heard in court, the Board Chairman together with one other member argued for the meeting to be held today.
Costs for the Meeting:
However, the cost for this needless meeting could have solved a lot of issues bedeviling the premier health facility.
Information gleaned from the Finance Directorate indicates that at least GHC 60, 000.00 is expended each time a board meeting is held at KATH.
This consists of hotel accommodation, feeding and allowances for the eleven (11) member board members who travel from places such as Takoradi, Accra, Koforidua and Kumasi.
Meanwhile, KATH is currently struggling to purchase suction machines to deal with cases that are brought daily to the facility.
Philanthropists:
Recently, friends of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), upon request managed to purchase ten (10) of this essential equipment for KATH.
With one going for GhC 3, 000.00, the GhC 60, 000 to be wasted on this morning meeting could have gotten 20 suction machines for the hospital.
At the time of going to press there were a lot of issues at the facility’s Oncology Department that needed urgent attention.
The hospital also needs essential equipment at almost all of its directorates which the GHC 60, 000.00 being used to organise today’s unnecessary board meeting could have been used to do.
Obsession:
A source told this reporter that the Board Chairman is wielding so much power to want everything his way.
He is reported to be against any decision the management takes including the appointment of the current legal attorney, Nan Freduah Agyeman.
Many are wondering if the current grandstanding attitude by the Board Chairman would help KATH achieve visions and realise targets the management is eyeing.
