Four suspected highway robbers who shot and killed a plane cloth police officer on the Mampong-Ejura highway in the Ashanti region have been arrested by the police.
General Corporal Alexander Cheremeh who was stationed at Bimbila in the Northern Region was on board a mini bus from Yeji to Kumasi when the incident happened.
The suspects Gariba Salifu alias Kudi, 19, Sulemana Ibrahim, 33, Mumuni Yusif alias Romeo, 22 and Emmanuel Yeboah alias Tupac,20 blocked the Mampong-Ejura highways on Friday,22nd January 2016 and robbed passengers on board a Ssayong mini bus of their monies and other personal belongings.
They however managed to shoot Corporal Alexander Cheremeh who was traveling from Yeji to Kumasi.
Police later got the information and rushed to the scène, but upon their arrival the armed men had fled into the bush with their booty including an unspecified amount of money, assorted mobile phones and the belongings of their victims.
Police intelligence however led to the arrest of the four suspects, one of them Gariba Salifu, who has been identified by one of the victims on board one of the vehicles during the incident.
