KMA should go to work on Abinkyi drain before it causes a disaster

Traders and some residents close by the Abinkyi market in Kumasi are disgusted at the level of filth allowed to accumulate in the big drain constructed close to the market.

The drain which also runs close to an electricity-related facility believed to belong to the Volta River Authority has become a rubbish dump in its own right whiles authorities look on.

“We don’t want to wait here till some disaster happens before we talk about it. We are calling on the KMA(Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly) to do something about this immediately”, a resident complained to rawgist.com.

In June this year, floods in some parts of Kumasi including Aboabo killed 5 people and destroyed several property, forcing President John Mahama to pay a visit. The President during that visit attributed the flood to the fact that “drains had been taken over by sand and other materials.” Angry youth of Aboabo also took to the streets blaming the KMA.

Some people close to the huge drain, which ironically, is not far from the KMA Waste Management outfit, do not like the stench, mosquitoes that are beginning to build up there and certainly do not want a disaster-related visit from the President.
